I Can’t Help Falling In Love With You

Darling,

There are certain songs that just make me think of you when I hear them. This is one of them.

I doubt this song was written from a dad to his daughter, and it might sound a little weird to say “falling in love with you” to your child, but I think when you become a mom, you will understand the reason why this song resonates with me as a parent.

The amount of love I have for you is immeasureable, so it works for me.

There are several versions of this song, but the original Elvis Presley is the only one you’ll ever need to hear.

Here are the lyrics:

Wise men say only fools rush in
But I can’t help falling in love with you
Shall I stay?
Would it be a sin
If I can’t help falling in love with you?

Like a river flows surely to the sea
Darling so it goes
Some things are meant to be
Take my hand, take my whole life too
For I can’t help falling in love with you

Like a river flows surely to the sea
Darling so it goes
Some things are meant to be
Take my hand, take my whole life too
For I can’t help falling in love with you
For I can’t help falling in love with you

I’m sure this was written as a love song from one person to another in reference to being a couple, but the emotion of the song fits for parenting too.

The part that gets me is “Take my hand, take my whole life, too” because that’s how being a parent feels to me. You take my hand and I’ll lead you through life the best I can. And I would give my whole life to you to protect you and give you the world. I think any true parent’s heart would break with bittersweat joy at the amount of love they would feel at that line.

Take my hand and my whole life too.

Love,
Daddy

P.S. What do you call the king of vegetables? Elvis Parsley

As a mom, I can tell you that these lyrics ring true. I’ve always told my daughter Maddison that she was my first true love. I simply didn’t know I was capable of loving another person SO MUCH, until she was born. I enjoy reading these. It’s a beautiful thing that you’re doing for your little one. 🙂
